Building a Strong Personal Brand 101
/Building a brand isn't just for entrepreneurs or businesses. You are a personal brand every single day in your personal life too.
The modern consumer, in particular Get Z and Millennials (who have a purchasing power of over $200 BILLION annually) buy into and are loyal to brands that they connect with on an emotional level. The essence of who you are, what you stand for, and how you show up on a consistent basis define your character… your personal brand.
It is said that we do business with people we know, like, trust... and relate to
Ask yourself this.
As your own personal brand are you LIKEABLE? If somebody simply doesn’t like you they will go else where to do business. Recommended reading: The LikeAbility Factor by Tim Sanders.
As your own personal brand are you TRUSTABLE? Your customers, colleagues, friends and family want to know that you deliver on what you say you will do. It’s about being authentic, reliable and knowing that you have their interest at heart.
As your own personal brand are you RELATABLE? Character traits such as arrogance can turn people off. Be grounded, genuinely listen and care about people. Be welcoming and add an splash of vulnerability and humility.
The answers to the 3 above questions are not dependent on what or who YOU think you are.
It’s about what the customer, your colleagues, friends and family perceive you to be.
If the answer is yes to those 3 bullet points , keep calm and carry on.
If the answer is no, look in the mirror, self-evaluate, get feedback from those you like, trust and relate to immediately. Either revisit your core values, or establish a solid set of cared value that will act as your north star. Adjust your character accordingly.
